What type of foal are we looking for
in this match
This cross is proven. Our first foal from Hiltje was also by Wander. That foal - Coriander - became 1st premie ster and is now one of our foundation broodmares. We crossed Hiltje with Wander again a few years later and she had another nice filly, Jantsje. Jantsje has not yet been taken for ster, but she did turn out to be nearly 17 hands tall and her owner adores her.
Excellent breeding record. Hiltje
is a beautiful full-papered 3rd premie mare with unbroken
lines back to the 1950's. She is from stam 25 - a damline which has produced a very large number of approved stallions and model mares. Her quality
as a broodmare has been proven -
she already has a 1st premie star
mare and 1st premie champion filly among her offspring.
With Hiltje you can rely on a lovely horse with a lovely temperament. Hiltje is one of our most popular broodmares.
Wander is fully approved on offspring and has one approved son. His son, Doaitsen 420, is in the top 3 most popular breeding stallions in the world. Wander also produces one of the lowest inbreeding percentages of any Friesian stallion.
More modern look, lightness of foot.
Hiltje is great under saddle or in harness. Wander produces good athleticism (espcially for a riding horse) and lovely modern looks. We have also found his foals to be extremely good natured and easy to train.
Low inbreeding coefficients .
Presently the registry is looking for a short term (5 generations back) inbreeding coefficient of 5% or less. More importantly, they desire a "kinship rating" (that is the inbreeding of a horse with respect to the entire Friesian population) of 17% or less. Achieving these numbers - epecially the kinship percentage - is very difficult. But this foal will meet both criteria, including a remarkably low kinship percentage of 16.3.
What are we expecting with this foal?
Hiltje produces what we call "a Family Friesian". Her foals are versatile, sweet, smart, easily trainable, and eager to please. The females are good, reliable broodmares. The foal will likely be very tall, very black, and have an abundant mane. S/he will be easy to work with and will have a good, light and efficient movement. The conformation will be modern. The horse should be a striking horse in dressage and a reliable harness horse. It will be a partner for a lifetime.
This is what we are breeding for.
But of course, ya never know.
Here is a video of Coriander - Hiltje's first foal by Wander and 1st premie ster. We expect this new foal to be similar:
