We have been breeding, raising and showing horses for more
than 35 years. Though we began by working with Saddlebreds,
we discovered in 1998 that we LOVE Friesians! Like most
people who know Friesians, we were completely taken
by their beauty, strength and wonderfully docile temperaments.
Since that time we have been working on slowly building
our breeding operation. Our mission is to raise and sell
Dutch-registered, high quality horses who can then be used
for future breeding, riding or driving. Interested in another

A top priority at Tanbark Acres is training our
horses not to be fearful. Every animal in our stock is handled daily. Here Dee
clips Ulysses when he was about 18 months old.
We spend a great deal of time with our animals. The
babies undergo foal imprinting. They are taught good manners,
how to load and unload on a trailer, proper behavior when
in a halter and when being led, and fundamental gaits on voice
command. Still, we are not trainers; we specialize in selling
weanlings and yearlings at an attractive price. These wonderful
animals can then be molded and developed to be the breeding
or sport horses our customers have been looking for.

What our customers have to say...
I never thought I would ever own a Friesian but Dee and
Carlton made it happen! Over the past year and half they
opened up
their hearts and home to us to "talk Friesian." They
made us feel like part of their family! From day one I wanted
a baby from their magnificent mare Hiltje and the impressive
Wander. Jantsje was
born on May 3, 2003 but was born 3 weeks early. She stayed
in the hospital for more than 2 weeks (and
still received 3rd premie at the keuring). The love and care
that Dee and Carlton showed her was amazing! Everyone who
meets her doesn't meet a horse, they meet a "person".
After the keuring, I brought her home to Tennessee and am
looking forward to many years together. Thanks Dee and Carlton
for coming into my life and making Jantsje a dream come true!

I wanted to write and tell you how wonderful and special
Ulysses is. I have spent alot of time with him this week and we have formed such a
special bond already! You both have done so well with him, he is calm, patient and
willing to please, with me being a beginner rider he knows exactly what to. He is so
beautiful and loves to be hugged. I am excited about spring coming so we can really
go off on some wonderful trail rides together. Its a perfect match and I thank you
Carlton and Dee for my special friend!

...I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how your former Friesian,
Tjipke, has enriched my life. Not only is he the local
"celebrity" and has brought many visitors to my barn, he is the horse that dreams are made of.
Tjipke has been everything you told me and more. He has a wonderful personality that is very
regal but very loving and willing to please me... Thanks for Tjipke. [He] has found a
home here in West Virginia with me for the remainder of his life...

...We Love Teade!!!. I want you to know how
completely satisfied we are with him. He has the most perfect temperament and is so very
honest. I cannot give him enough praise nor you for choosing him. Thank you again. We are
starting dressage training on Saturday and going trail riding on Sunday. I have ridden
everyday since the second day we got here. He is just INCREDIBLE...

...I believe Cori is
more beautiful and impressive everytime I see her. I am really
pleased with how her presence and temperament favor her mother,
Hiltje (you know how much
I like her). Thanks for your excellent baby training, too.
It is a pleasure to see a baby so well-mannered. I like Cori
so much, I would like to place an "upcoming baby"
contract on Hiltje's next male foal....
